The reality

Your first PR shouldn't take three months

You've read the contributing guide. You've cloned the repo. You've spent hours trying to get the dev environment running. Then your PR sits in review limbo for weeks. Sound familiar?

73%
of first PRs are abandoned

Most people give up before a maintainer even looks at their code.

14 days
average wait for first review

Two weeks wondering if you did something wrong. We cut that to hours.

FAQ

Questions & answers

What happens during a session?+

You get on a 1-on-1 video call with a senior developer who knows the project. They help you pick an issue, understand the codebase, set up your environment, write the code, and prepare your PR. Think pair programming with someone who has the answers.

Do I need experience with open source?+

Not at all — that’s the whole point. FirstPR is designed for developers making their very first open-source contribution. You should be comfortable writing code in at least one language, but we handle the rest.

What if my PR doesn’t get merged?+

We offer a full refund if your PR isn’t merged. Your mentor also provides async support to help address review feedback, so most PRs land within a week.

Which projects can I contribute to?+

We have mentors across popular open-source projects including React, Django, Node.js, Next.js, FastAPI, Vue, Rails, and more. Tell us what interests you and we’ll find the right match.

How do I become a mentor?+

If you’re a maintainer or experienced contributor, we’d love to have you. You set your own hours and earn $35+ per session. Use the mentor application link below to get started.

Can I book multiple sessions?+

Absolutely. Some contributors book a second session to tackle a harder issue or contribute to a different project. Each session is independent — no subscription needed.
